COUNTDOWN TO COMPETITION

Most of the items in the list below are explained in greater detail in
subsequent sections of the HANDBOOK.  Much of the work can be done by
the Registrar.

12 MONTHS AHEAD

	o	Appoint a Registrar.

	o	Decide on a date [between July 01 and October 01,
                taking into consideration the dates of the various
                Provincial Competitions.]

	o	Devise a Budget.

	o	Establish contact with the Director in each Province.
                Your first correspondence should include: the proposed
                date and place of the judging; a request for the date
                of the Provincial Competition; some description of
                Convention plans, if any; a request for an
                alternate reliable person and address (i.e. Provincial
                Organization President) in case the Provincial Director 
                cannot be reached at some time. Also included should be 
                your email address, phone number, and street address
                and any other information you think is appropriate. 

	o	Order keeper trophies if you plan to award them. They
                won't get any cheaper.

	o	Book a judging room.

	o	Begin correspondence with any "long - distance" Judges
                you may be planning to import.

8 MONTHS AHEAD

	o	If you plan on awarding any certificates, discover the
                whereabouts of any remaining from previous AWC
                Competitions, otherwise arrange for the printing of
                more - also locate the AWC Seal.  

	o	Arrange for obtaining the Wine Champion's keeper key.
                Since this cannot be engraved and gold-plated until
                after the judging, it can be used as a presentation key 
                if the Wine Champion is present at any awards ceremony
                you plan.

	o	Correspond with Provincial Directors informing them of
                the entry deadline and any other appropriate matters.

4 MONTHS AHEAD

	o	Have entry information, forms etc. completed and ensure 
                the information is in the hands of each Provincial
                Director.

	o	If you are going to award any certificates, make sure
                you have them and the AWC Seal.

	o	Plan registration system.

	o	Invite Judges.

2 MONTHS AHEAD

	o	Decide how and when certificates are to be filled out.
 
	o	Ask Judges for their preferences of Classes to be
                judged.

	o	Invite Stewards.

	o	Arrange for glasses.

1 MONTH AHEAD

	o	Assign Judges to classes where possible. Remember, no
                Judge may judge in a class where he/she has an entry.

	o	Assign Stewards to classes.

	o	Arrange for equipment and supplies necessary for the 
                judging room.

3 WEEKS AHEAD

	o	Receive and register entries.

1 DAY AHEAD

	o	Double check that everything is ready.  Get some sleep.

SOON AFTER

	o	Complete results communicated to AWC Executive,  
                Provincial and AWC Websites.
