"DATE: 09-24-08 retasted 11-19-08 same note Appearance: Deep purple.
Nose: Blackberry, redcurrant, ripe plum, smoky oak and light herbal tones.
Palate: Dry with very good acidity, midweight. Palate follows the nose, but is softer somehow. Nice citrusy zest on the attack, with fresh fruit, light oak and some dark chocolate on the midpalate joined by dusty tannins which last through the long clean very dry finish. Again a mineral note on the aftertaste.
Conclusions: Softened by the Lucie Kuhlman (blended with Marechal Foch and Baco Noir) this is a very good example of what can come from first treating hybrid varieties with respect in the vineyard and then in the winery. This is northern Italian in feel, with a ten year future. Nova Scotia does red hybrids very well indeed, and this is a good one from a relatively poor year. Foodworthy as hell because it has good acidity, but will become a stand-alone sipper in another three years." lfw
