Eastern Ontario
Twin Pine Estate vineyard is planted on 6 inches of dark brown sandy soil underlain by heavy greyish brown clay loams with a greyish brown calcareous till, on the bench of the Seaway Valley at 250 feet above sea level.
We are located four miles North of the Village of Iroquois on Chess Rd. in South Dundas Township. Our first vines went into the ground on May 25, 2002 after a year of site preparation. 6000 vines in total were planted and more will be planted next year.
Variety selection was difficult as there was little knowledge of what varieties may survive in this areas, very few vineyards exist in Eastern Ontario to look to for experience and advice. The 11 varieties chosen and planted, nine are expected to do very well in this area, however after only six months, they are all showing strong growth.
Of all the varieties, 8 are viniferas and 3 hybrids have been chosen.
We feel strongly all the viniferas chosen will do well and we believe it will be exciting and challenging to be successful in this area.
