In late 1979 Terry took a course offered at Fanshawe College by Larry Miller in Winemaking. This was after he had taken a course in Wine, Spirits and Foods and also one in Bar Tending . The first 2 in the series were interesting so he thought he'd take the 3rd one to find how to make the Wines that he'd tasted in the the 1st course. At the conclusion of the course, in which Terry achieved the highest mark (and won 100 oz California Red Concentrate) Larry asked if he'd like to join a new club that was just forming. It didn't have name when he joined, but itbecame the London Wine Pros.
ed note - Terry has earned about 3/4 of the total points earned by the London Wine Pros, the second-place all-time club in Ontario...lfw

Terry dabbled around in winemaking for a couple of years then started competing in wine in 1982 and actually won a Silver in Sparkling wine that year. The following year he started competing in Beer.

Since then the medal total is slightly over 100 AWO medals, 4 Provinical Wine Championships, 7 Provincial Beer Championships, and a number of Cider championships. There's also 3 National Cider Championships, a couple of National Beer Championships and 1 or 2 National Wine Championships to boot.

Terry is also a member of the Wine Judges Commission of Ontario as a Master Judge and currently has responsibility for making up the wines for testing of trainees and retesting of judges. He has also been fairly active in the seminar area, generally presenting 3-4 seminars per year to amateur wine clubs. More recently Terry has been involved in providing limited consulting services to a few Fruit Wineries.

As far as grape growing goes it's hard to grow much in grapes in a suburban backyard in London, but he does have a few vines as a barometer on what's happening in Niagara. Most of his grapes comes from the Niagara area, although a little does come from California.
Terry's main focus has been on how to vinify the various fruits and finish the wines rather than growing the fruits themselves.
