"DATE: 08-28-07 Appearance: Purple with the beginnings of brick at the rim.
Nose: Spicy oak, blackberry, blueberry, peppery.
Palate: Dry with good acidity, midweight. Palate nicely follows the nose, with some still-aggressive ripe tannins midpalate and on the long dry clean finish.
Conclusions: This little-known and underestimated variety is making some first rate, ageable wines in Ontario. This one still has five years in front of it. I am constantly amazed at how well some of these so-called minor varieties (think also of Gamay) are doing here in Ontario. Very nicely done, good value." lfw
FROM THE PRODUCERS:"A medium-bodied red, with black cherry and raspberry jam on the nose and palate, with slight spicy black pepper, smoky and earthy notes in the background. The palate has soft tannins, great fruit and spiciness. Break some rules and try this red with poultry or salmon."
