"RETASTED: 08-22-07 Appearance: Ruby.
Nose: Essentially unchanged from below.
Palate: Off-dry with good acidity (tastes sweeter than a zero for sure), midweight. Palate follows the nose, adding ripe tannins and rich mouthfeel midpalate. Long clean finish.
Conclusions: This could age for five years, mellowing and becoming more complex with age, and more foodworthy at that. Right now it is very nice by itself, but would also work with a turkey dinner. This seems sweeter/softer than it did 15 months ago." lfw

"DATE: 05-17-06 Appearance: Ruby.
Nose: Nice cassis character, lightly oaked character, undercurrents of raspberry.
Palate: Dryish with refreshing acidity, midweight. Cassis is softened by the oak contact, with clean straightforward fruit that lasts cleanly to the long finish.
Conclusions: Just as the Russet Fantasy (apple) could be substituted for white wine with a meal, this could be substituted for a red. Would work really well with rare red meat due to the combination of acidity, blackcurrant astringency and good intensity of flavour. Should hold well for three or four years, getter softer and more complex in nature." lfw

FROM THE PRODUCERS:"Back Home is a unique dry (0) black currant wine made from Ontario black currants. The barrel aged wine tastes very much like a fine Cabernet Sauvignon and has won BRONZE at Intervin International. The wine is suited to meals that include roast beef, steak on the barbecue and other succulent red meats. The oaked flavour in the wine balances well in the mouth.."
