"DATE: 07-16-08 Appearance: Deep ruby.
Nose: Plum, black pepper, sweet oak, blackberry and some of that meaty syrah character.
Palate: Dry with good acidity, midweight plus. Palate is bigger than the nose, with ripe tannins and rich mouthfeel on the midpalate, and a good clean long dry finish.
Conclusions: Not quite a heavyweight, yet close. Should age well for another five years, would work now with many red meat dishes." lfw

FROM THE PRODUCERS:"This wine represents a new concept for Fielding--blending wines from vinifera varietals, a specialty of our new winemaker, Richie Roberts. Our 2006 Red Conception is a blend of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Aglianico, crafted separately in small lots. The name was inspired by our Jack Rabbit Flats Vineyard, where most of these grape varietals were grown, and once a very popular “parking” spot among locals. As it turns out, more than just great wine was conceived in our vineyards.

Winemaking: Composed of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Aglianico vinified seperately in small lots. Assembled following 14 months aging in new, 2nd fill, and 3rd fill French oak barriques from selected coopers and forest origins.

Winemakers' Tasting Notes: Integrated nose of black pepper, cedar, red berry fruit, cinnamon and leather with a slight rustic and earthy character. A round mid-palate, with ripe tannins and a spicy finish."
