Members: Barry Case, Bryan Pell, Carl Kimmet, Eila & Roger Martin, John Rufa(hon.), Lee Etherington, Liang Liu, Jarmo Saari and Marc Eber.
Items of business:
a) Election of Officers - the current Board was unanimously approved for re-election. No other members volunteered to serve, or were nominated for office.
b) Adoption of the Constitution - after some discussion, the Constitution as posted on this website was adopted.
c) Club purchases - group purchases were discussed, but no motions were made or passed.
d) Club Projects - these were discussed, but no motions were made or passed. The Constitution deals in some ways with this issue.
e) Club Competition 2005 - we will book April 23rd 2005 as the date of the competition, to be held at Larry's house.
f) Malolactic Testing - this is funded by the club, and requires only 1 or 2 mm of your wine to see if this is ongoing. Please contact Larry for assistance.
g) Listservers - Any member who wishes to be put on the AWO listserver, Winetalk, or the private listserver, Growwine, should contact Larry.
h) Manfred Hecke discussed the future of placing orders with him for Ontario juices. In short, get your orders in as early as you can. February 2005 may be too late.
i) The club membership subsidies were approved by the unanimous vote of members present. The AWO provincial organization charges each member $30.00 per annum, and the club voted to use up the excess earnings (our share of running the 2004 Convention) by charging a reduced membership rate. Renewing members will be charged $20.00, new members $25.00. It was further moved, seconded and unanimously approved that a special "Student" rate be endorsed, allowing students to join for $20.00. This would allow a maximum of 10 students to join (a maximum cost to the club of $100). The hope is that area students (Trent, Sir Sandford, other) would in future be able to form a stand-alone club, with mentoring help from growwine members. Marc Eber joined as the first Student member. Any student joining will be considered a "full" member.
j) The membership present unanimously endorsed the adoption of John Rufa, owner/operator of Kawartha Country Wines, as an honourary member. This would entitle him to take part in any of our meetings. It does not entitle him to a vote, or to enter competition. The club thanked John (and Trish Dougherty) for their hospitality in hosting our meeting on October 16th.
k) The membership endorsed mailing costs to send all membership cards out to members who are unable to attend the first meeting of the year after the cards are received from AWO.
l) Any member wishing their picture added to or deleted from the "Rogues Gallery" on the website should approach any member of the Executive to accomplish this.
