LARDY'S WINETASTING NOTES Medium Bodied Red Wine

2001 Zweigelt
Tech Information: 03-19-07 $ 14.95 (S: 0 A: 12) Winery

"DATE: 03-23-07 Appearance: Ruby with some brick at the edge.
Nose: Cranberry/beet/blueberry and plum with some spiciness on the nose.
Palate: Dry with good acidity, midweight. Palate follows the nose with some softness and richness showing as well. A certain resemblance to Chianti of a similar age reveals itself in the acid/alcohol/fruit balance. Long clean finish.
Conclusions: Maturing Zweigelt still has another 3-5 years in front of it. This almost unpronouncable grape gets little respect in Ontario, although it produces superior ageworthy reds which are very versatile at the table. The resemblance to Chianti is one that I've noticed before in this variety. Very under-rated wine, this is great value at this price." lfw
FROM THE PRODUCERS:"Medium-bodied with beetish-berry flavours and a peppery finish. Serve with red zesty pasta sauces, roast beef, lamb, game or alone."
