A Pinot Noir tasting at Niagara College
November 10, 2005

My wife Barbara and I were asked by Jim Warren to help manage a blind tasting of Pinot Noir wines at Niagara College on Nov 10, 2005. We drove down early in the morning, and did the preparatory work hiding bottles etc. to a predetermined order of service (set by Jim in advance). This was therefore not a rigidly enforced tasting, more an educational exercise. Nevertheless we did not count our preferences when preparing the totals for Jim. Larry Paterson.

By Jim Warren:

"Once again thank-you for coming to our tasting and a special thanks to everyone who supplied wines.

Many people correctly identified wine # 1 as the oldest while 6 people correctly chose # 11 (Beaux Freres) as the most expensive. No one identified # 5, Governor's Bay, New Zealand, as the import (ed note - read non-North American lfw) ... Results were based on a 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 point system. 4 wines received 3 first place votes each, those wines placed 2, 3, 4, and 5. Wine number 1, Beaux Freres, placed on 15 sheets, and so accumulated the most points. 11 wines shared 23 first place votes indicating an interesting range of preference."
