LARDY'S WINETASTING NOTES Heavy Bodied Red Wine
2002 Meritage
Tech Information:04-13-07 $ 120.00 (S: 0 A: ?) Winery

"DATE: Retasted 04-08-06 Appearance: Deep purple, almost opaque.
Nose: Blackberry, raspberry, cassis, violets, spicy oak, something a bit earthy and buttery as well.
Palate: Dry with good acidity, heavyweight. Everything promised on the nose is there in spades, with more nuances added. Big rich midpalate, deep fruit, very long dusty dry finish.
Conclusions: Big Meritage blend has at least 10 years in front of it, lots of extract, all the elements are there. Not really in harmony with itself yet, but approaching it. Best now with appropriate foods, and best by itself in front of the fireplace in 5 years and thereafter." lfw
"DATE: 02-09-04 Appearance: Purple.
Nose: Intense nose of spicy oak and ripe blackberries, blackcurrant, spices. Chocolate and leather, big and inviting.
Palate: Quite dry with good acidity. Heavyweight material. Rich ripe tannins coat your mouth midpalate then big ripe berry/cherry/plum flavours show with moderate spices and cassis. Long clean finish still coats your mouth in ripe tannins.
Conclusions: Very good meritage blend, a little austere for most people right now, but try this in 5 years (or 10, for that matter). High quality modern-style new world wine with a future, needs rare foods right now." lfw
