WINE TIDINGSLAKEFIELD WINE AND CHEESE: THE BIG LITTLE SHOW
"The first Great Canadian Wine and Cheese Show was held August 2, 1992 in Lakefield, a community in theheart of the Kawartha cottage country, Ontario. Seventeen of Ontario's top wineries were represented along with the Vintners Quality Alliance, the Ontario Wine Society and local cheese producers.
Ontario Minister of Agriculture and Food, the honourable Elmer Buchanan, MPP, was on hand to officially open the show and present a special VQA plaque to LCBO employees from the Kawarthas and district in recognition of their outstanding support of Ontario wines. The Lakefield liquor store boasts one of the largest selection of Ontario VQA wines in the entire province and sales certainly reflect interest.
The show, which maintained a real "down home" country fair feel, was an outstanding success. Larry Paterson, the show's co-ordinator was overwhelmed with the attendance and foresees the show as the first of an annual event. Billed as a celebration of Ontario's finer foods and wines, it was well worth the visit to Lakefield." --- Edward Finstein
