"DATE: 03-23-07 Appearance: Ruby.
Nose: Sweet oak, cassis, dark berries, sweet cherry and red peppers.
Palate: Dry with moderate acidity, midweight. Vanilla, chocolate, sweet oak and dark fruit all show midpalate. Long clean finish.
Conclusions: Wine is maturing, but still has at least five years in front of it. This would stand well beside Bordeaux at 50% higher prices." lfw

FROM THE PRODUCERS:"This release of Maleta's signature wine stands to surpass all previous vintages. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines have acquired more maturity and their concentrated flavors are magnificent in this wine. The color is deep, dark ruby. The bouquet is concentrated with cassis and black raspberry fruit. Delicious oak notes of clove, coffee and cocoa are enhanced with a subtle suggestion of eucalyptus.

This is a young wine exhibiting forward tannins but absolutely no harshness. The flavors are austere but showing promise of opulence to come. The fruit is rich, smooth and ripe with cranberry and cassis. The wine leaves the mouth with flavors of tobacco, cigar box, green and black pepper and a pleasant bitterness - everything that you would expect in a great Meritage. A wine with a fine future.

Great for elegant dinners based on red meats or rich duck based dishes.

A small quantity of magnums (1500 mL) and double-magnums (3000 mL) were also produced.
