"DATE: 08-12-08 Appearance: Deep ruby / purple with light mahogany at the rim.
Nose: Blueberry / blackberry and red currant fruit with spicy oak and an herbal quality.
Palate: Dry with good acidity, heavyweight. Big foch follows the nose with redder fruit added to the nose (raspberry, cherry). Midpalate shows dusty tannins and a silky mouthfeel. Finish is good, clean and long.
Conclusions: Another nearly-forgotten grape in Niagara that deserves better. Modern winemaking turns wines like these into treasures, something off-the-beaten-path as it were. Foch ages marvelously well, this could go another ten years. Match with anything that has acidity in the food (think tomato paste) or with bbq situations. Wine for flavour junkies tired of the normal run, a grape that is worth preserving. This is exceptional value." lfw
