Other hardy grape varieties coming onstream, November 2008 and 2009

Cuttings should be ordered by mid October, establish priority for scarce varieties by ordering in early September.

Cuttings shipped ONLY in late November and early December to avoid critical cold injury in the event that snow is late arriving.

Cuttings $1.50 (postage included) each, labeled and tied in bunches of 5 or 10 / wrapped in wet paper toweling inside plastic bags / shipped by Canada Post in cardboard boxes or insulated envelopes ready for refrigerator storage until spring.

Cuttings can be planted in garden soil after the danger of frost has passed (mid May in New Brunswick) for rooting during the summer. Place at least half of the buds on the cutting below the soil.

Leaves will appear within two weeks and since these new leaves place considerable water stress on the cuttings which have NO ROOTS --- irrigation is necessary whenever the surface of the soil has been dry for two or three days or when there has not been a soaking rain during the past week. I use a cheap dripper hose (from Canadian Tire) 100 feet long, run up one side and down the other side of a 50 foot row of cuttings spaced about 6 inches apart.

The first small roots will appear toward the end of July with lots of roots by the end of August. Irrigation should stop in early September to allow the (now) rooted cuttings to harden off for winter.

Some protection (soil buried or piled-on dry leaves) should be offered in the first winter as new roots are close to the soil surface.

Rooted cuttings can be transplanted in early spring, as soon as the soil has thawed, to their vineyard position (in deep holes) after one or two summers in the garden.

Order as early as August - all varieties in limited quantities.

Send request list and COMPLETE MAILING ADDRESS with money order from Canada Post or one of 5 main Canadian banks - no cheques please.

Minimum cuttings per variety: 5

Minimum order $25.00 to:
