Smithville Fair Amateur Wine competition
For those of us who are interested in these events, the Smithville Fair is hosting and Amateur Wine Competition on August 28, 2007. The entry fee is $5.00, which covers any entries you care to make (one or nine!). This should be cheque payable to "Smithville Agricultural Society".

Amateur Wine Makers Competition
1. All wines must be made by the entrant who shall be an amateur wine maker
2. No wine may be entered into more than section.
3. One (1) bottle per exhibitor per section.
4. All wines become the property of the Smithville Agricultural Society
5. Secure exhibit tag to your bottle.
6. All bottles must be free of wax, labels and capsules or other distinguishing marks
7. All entries must be in corked 750 mL bottles, except categories 6 through 9
which may be in 200mL or 375mL bottles.
8. The judge may decide to not award a prize at their discretion.
9. Judging will be conducted by a member judge of the Wine Judges of Canada,
and his or her decision shall be final in all matters.
10. Wines from commercial kits may enter. A full description of your kit is
needed to assist in placing the entry in the correct section.

Medals to third place.
1. White vinifera
2. White hybrid
3. Rose/blush (any type of grape)
4. Red vinifera
5. Red hybrid
6. Social (too sweet for food, drank alone, not a
dessert wine, includes fruit/wine blends)
7. Dessert (e.g. late harvest, port)
8. Country/fruit/mead (95%+ non-grape, eg. Apple, cherry, dandelion, mead)
9. Ice wine (100% sourced from grapes)
Wine Maker of the Year
Points are awarded as follows in sections 1, 2, 4, 5 & 9:
5 points for First, 4 points for second, 3 points for third.
Points are awarded as follows in sections 3, 6, 7 & 8:
3 points for First, 2 points for second, 1 point for third.
The exhibitor who accumulates the most points will be
declared Wine Maker of the Year.

Best in Show
The judge will award one wine in any category, the award of
best of show. (engraved plaque for winner to keep).
Best Ontario Wine
The judge will award one wine in any category that is
comprised of 100% Ontario fruit, the award of best
Ontario wine of show. (engraved plaque for winner to keep).
