wine chemistry at work Tech Information: 12-04-07 $ 12.00 (S: Dry A: 13) Winery

"DATE: 12-31-07 Appearance: Deep ruby.
Nose: Black cherry, light cassis and pepper, spicy oak and a mineral quality.
Palate: Dry with good acidity, midweight plus. Big plum and blue/cranberry flavours join those advertised on the nose. Vanilla and light chocolate, a silky richness midpalate, light dusty tannins and a long clean dry finish make this quite a good wine.
Conclusions: A rare wine from a new super coldhardy variety out of Minnesota, this is a very nice wine now for food usage, and in three to four years will develop real stand-alone character. Frontenac is the offspring of Landot 4511, which I have made for many years, and exhibits the character therein. I have held blind tastings in which blends of Landot 4511 and Niagara Cabernet/Merlot have been mistaken for Classed Growth Bordeaux. Interesting wine, and a great hope for the future. Most people would not be able to identify this as "Hybrid"." lfw
