IN SEARCH OF ELMER SWENSON
Left - Found Him! Right - Elmer relaxingSaturday Aug 25 at Elmer Swenson's Vineyard

Elmer showing a finer point to nurseryman Alain Breault and grower Mike Marler. To the right, some new vines Elmer is testing out, and has hope for. The man is still going ... and going... and going...
Following in the footsteps of the legend. Within 3 hours the crowd was much thinner - thinner both in the sense of fewer people and weight lost on those still following Elmer. Man it was hot in that vineyard, and I considered swiping Bob Parkes Tilley hat (on the right)...

Group pictures - on the left, all the Canadian members with Elmer, on the right, joined by Tom Plocher and Bob Parke, but Mariette has left.
A chance to park after a great vineyard tour. I believe the apples on the ground were bred by Elmer many years ago. A feast of local wines, bread, meat, cheese. Great time with great people. I followed this trip by visiting most of les Quebecois in September.
Elmer has a keen sense of humour and kept the party going. This was a great chance to share a summer day. Just glad I don't have to cut that lawn! A very friendly place.
An impromptu blending session in Elmer's yard. Blending various amounts of Northern Vineyards barrel fermented Lacrosse with a homemade white wine made from Louise Swenson and Prairie Star. Along with Alain Breault, Tom has been making recommendations to the Central Ontario Viniculture Association about grape varieties for two Peterborough test plots that will be planted in 2002. The book Northern Winework by Tom and Bob Parke will change the way grapes are grown in cold climates.
