ES 8-2-43 (incidentally, this means Elmer Swenson Variety plot 8 row 2 vine 43). This is one that we will be planting in Peterborough in 2002, as part of the COVA test plots. 8-2-43 will be part of a germanic style off-dry white we plan. We would also like to eventually be able to add La Crescent from the University of Minnesota program, if ever it gets to Canada.

It has been said that the little fat wino can only leave home in the custody of a keeper. Here, fellow traveller and retired psychiatrist Bryan Pell discusses wino management strategies with author Bob Parke. Obviously restraints are soon to be applied (they think!). Bryan is the skipper of the Minnow, president of the Central Ontario Viniculture Association, and owner / chief rock-picker at Peregrine North Farm Vineyard in Peterborough.

Minnesota 1180 is the red grape variety to the left, one that we hope can get into and through the quarantine system into Canada. Tom Plocher made a great wine from this grape. The white variety on the right is Prairie Star, which we want to plant as part of our dry white wine.

Proof that the bird scarer works. If you take a very close look at the left side of the bunch of grapes you may notice a bit of bird guana. Some poor bird was planning lunch on top of this bunch, and the bird gard made it's noises, scaring the scat right out of the bird! And where better to end this story???
